About

There are tons of bad stories about things that have gone wrong with ostomy bags and nightmare situations.  The truth is I think they are much less common than we think. I like to joke with people that tell me they are about to go into surgery for an ostomy and paint the worst case scenario in their mind.  Then let them know that it has literally never happened and I have never known anyone to do that.  Then I like to brighten their day by telling them something crazy I did with my ostomy bag and stoma, like climbing a mountain in the Grand Tetons or in Zion.  They then do a double take and realize that all is going to be well and that lots of crazy adventures await them.  Now there are real woes when it comes to keeping your stoma clean and safe and rash free.  I do let people know that good gear helps.

When it comes to gear the companies are endless but there are a few that I like.  Generally, I like them because their stuff works.  Do I really think one company is head and shoulders above another?  No I really don't, but I do believe in quality control and customer service and those are usually the two areas that sell me on a business.  Their Supplies has good customer service and from what I know now good quality control on their products.  I have had almost no bad interactions with a product or a representative and let's face it that is the biggest part of business.

So once I am done with letting people know the woe stories I let them know that good gear keeps those from really happening.  Test things out and see what works best for you.  I like to talk to pharmacists and check the internet frequently to see if new things come out or if I am doing something that could be done better.  Like using a premium skin product. That is key to keeping those rash woes away. So I follow instagrammers and youtubers and see what is hitting it big and who is being paid to say what.  Then I can extrapolate real information and see what is actually working for people.

Don't be down and don't frown on your situation.  Anything is still possible, it just takes a little more planning and some good gear.  Cheers and enjoy life.
